About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Development Assessment, the purpose of the position is to manage, in a holistic manner, the following functions within the Development Assessment & Development Advisory Services teams:

  • Ensure delivery of integration & business improvement projects so as to ensure that:
    • Development assessment is undertaken in a consistent and transparent manner;
    • All policies and procedures are current, relevant and that business systems support the operation of the unit;
    • The operation of the unit reflects best-practice, and remains abreast of changes in legislation, regulations and standards; and
    • Ensure that development application processing times are subject to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Management and/or assessment of highly complex and/or high profile projects and applications.
  • Management of applications where Council is the applicant or may have a conflict of interest.
  • Liaise with staff & coordination of resources for the management of Land & Environment Court appeals.

$100,659 - $120,714 p.a. + super

Key duties
  • Holistically manage the assessment and reporting of major projects and applications which by their nature are likely to be highly complex or high-profile. This includes participating in meetings and the provision of advice prior to the lodgement of such applications.
  • Manage the assessment of applications (including external consultants as required) where Council may have a conflict of interest as an applicant or landowner. This includes participating in meetings and the provision of advice prior to the lodgement of such applications
  • Liaise with staff and coordinate resources for the management of Land & Environment Court appeals.
  • Investigate and implement efficiencies in all systems and processes.
Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications
  1. Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or related discipline.
  2. Extensive relevant industry experience, including in the management of highly complex and high-profile projects and development proposals.
  3. Outstanding knowledge of Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and related planning legislation and concepts as they relate to development assessment.
  4. Experience in preparation and presentation of matters for the NSW Land and Environment Court.
  5. Highly developed skills in effective communication and conflict resolution/mediation techniques and negotiation.
  6. NSW Class C Driver’s License.
