About us

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission is an independent statutory body with responsibilities under three Victorian laws: the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001, and Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006. The Commission works with individuals and organisations to achieve our vision of a community where every person values, understands and respects human rights and equal opportunity.

About the role

As the Senior Project Adviser, you will implement the 'Reducing Racism' project and initiatives funded by the Multicultural Affairs and Social Cohesion (MASC) division in the Department of Premier and Cabinet. This project intersects with the Commission's broader program of work to address racism within multicultural and multi-faith communities.

In the role, you will:

  • plan, design, deliver, present and evaluate educative and engaging anti-discrimination programs and events aimed at targeted groups, including visible minorities, culturally diverse communities, community leaders, and community organisations
  • work strategically and collaboratively with key stakeholders who work closely with culturally diverse communities
  • consult, facilitate and deliver workshops to identify barriers to reporting racism among a group of multicultural and multi-faith individuals
  • support the work of the Communication and Campaigns Branch to develop an evidence-based digital campaign that addresses barriers to reporting racism, discrimination and vilification.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • experience in strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of community projects with a strong focus on developing educative programs, session delivery, events and resources for multicultural and multi-faith communities in Victoria
  • the ability to collaborate and partner with key stakeholders, community leaders and representatives
  • project management skills including planning, evaluation and reporting as well as community and stakeholder engagement acumen
  • demonstrated knowledge and expertise in project management of community engagement programs preferably within a human rights and equal opportunity jurisdiction
  • demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the development, delivery and evaluation of educative resources, digital learning and campaigns
  • an understanding and experience in community engagement and capacity building
  • knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission and its legislation, or capacity to quickly attain this knowledge.

If you are inspired by the prospect of improving equality for Victorian communities who have been targeted or silenced by persistent and harmful race and religious discrimination and vilification, we want to hear from you.
