Agency overview
The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (NSW BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment. The Trust?s roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government?s Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

 

The NSW BCT falls within the portfolio responsibilities of the Minister for the Environment, and forms part of the NSW Government?s planning and environment cluster.

 

About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced community engagement officer to join a new organisation dedicated to biodiversity conservation. You will develop an approach to promote public knowledge, appreciation and understanding of biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.
You will use your collaboration and communication skills to work with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and deliver a range of community engagement and education programs, to build awareness and understanding within target audiences of biodiversity conservation objectives and outcomes. These programs will support the Act?s objective of improving and sharing knowledge of biodiversity conservation.

 

In conjunction, you will prepare communication material to build awareness and understanding of biodiversity conservation objectives and outcomes and assist in gaining input and support from stakeholders. As part of the role, you will research current community engagement methods and techniques to recommend changes to programs and materials. 

 

Primary purpose of the role
Leads the development and implementation of the BCT?s community engagement strategy, to fulfil the BCT?s legislative objective to promote public knowledge, appreciation and understanding of biodiversity and the importance of conserving biodiversity. You will:

 

? join an exciting new organisation dedicated to biodiversity conservation
? promote public knowledge, appreciation and understanding of biodiversity and the importance of conserving biodiversity
? Develop and deliver education and information training programs

 

Essential requirements:
? Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in, and understanding of, the development, delivery, assessment and improvement of contemporary learning and engagement methodologies for a diverse range of stakeholders.
? Experience in developing and implementing community education strategies with a focus on stakeholder involvement and engagement.
? Knowledge in developing and implementing community education strategies with a focus on stakeholder involvement and engagement
? Knowledge and understanding of biodiversity conservation and other relevant environmental policies and issues.

 

To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:
? Knowledge and experience delivering programs/projects through partnership with government and other providers.
