Agency overview

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (NSW BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment. The Trust?s roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government?s Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

 

The NSW BCT falls within the portfolio responsibilities of the Minister for the Environment, and forms part of the NSW Government?s planning and environment cluster.

 

The opportunity:

An exciting opportunity working within the BCT communications and stakeholder engagement team to develop and implement the public relations programs and activities of the organisation. This will involve the promotion of BCT?s reputation, services and programs through issues management, communication planning and delivery and by providing direct media liaison and media enquiry services, and specialist advice.

 

Working with the Manager and in collaboration with other members of the BCT Communications and Stakeholder Engagement team, you will:

? Develop and implement communication strategies and plans including the identification of public relations opportunities, other communications including traditional and social media, media and issues management

? Monitor and analyse media reporting about conservation and environment issues to assist with identifying any issues, and determining the effectiveness of the communication strategies

? Draft and deliver real time parliamentary briefings to enhance and maintain the reputation of the BCT, including managing daily competing priorities from multiple stakeholders and media outlets, including the Ministers Office and

? Work alongside people within the key BCT functional areas to prepare communication materials addressing key issues and that promote the work, activities and objectives of the BCT.

 

About you:

You will provide direct media liaison and media enquiry services, specialist advice, information and support.  You will enjoy working in a small and dynamic team environment. You will join an exciting new and agile organisation dedicated to biodiversity conservation.

 

Essential requirements:

? Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in developing and implementing communication strategies with a focus on stakeholder involvement.

? Demonstrated knowledge and experience in contentious issues management, journalism and/or communication planning in an environmental context.

? Knowledge and experience working with the media, particularly key print and electronic media.

 

To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:

? Demonstrable experience in the development of digital news content and a sound knowledge and experience in utilising social media channels.
