The Department’s two related agencies - the Office of Environment & Heritage and the Office of Local Government - support the conservation and protection of the environment and an effective local government sector in NSW. Several other entities associated with the Department include the Environment Protection Authority, statutory trusts responsible for zoos, parks and gardens, independent assessment and planning bodies, and development corporations.
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has become available to be a part of our Public Affairs Branch to aid the Director Public Affairs and other staff on a range of corporate communication services. You will prepare communication material and deliver digital content to promote the work activities and objectives of OEH, and help manage issues. As part of the role, you will support the Media Team with media enquiries and issues management, and support the Internal Communication team by preparing content for the organisation’s employee communication channels.
In the role, you will provide advice and assistance to stakeholders in dealing with situations involving the media, and will monitor and analyse traditional and social media reporting to assist with identifying any issues and determining the effectiveness of communication strategies and plans.
Primary purpose of the role
Promote the organisation’s reputation, services and resources through traditional media, social media and internal and external communications, including issues management, strategic communications planning and delivery, media management, and digital storytelling.
The role is required to work collaboratively with both the Media and Internal Communications teams and liaise with a broad range of stakeholders to promote the work of the agency and the department to external audiences and to the rest of the organisation. You will:
• Work collaboratively to deliver an effective corporate communication service
• Prepare communication material to promote the work, activities and objectives of OEH
• Support and implement public relations campaigns
Essential requirements:
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in issues management, journalism and/or communication planning in a complex organisation preferably with knowledge of environmental and heritage issues.
• Knowledge and experience in working with the traditional media, including social media.
• Experience in implementing communication strategies with a focus on stakeholder involvement.
