This position is based in Canberra.

About the Opportunity

Cubic is seeking a planner with appropriate Military experience and demonstrated knowledge of exercise planning and training for FORGEN, OPGEN and other specified training activities.  This position will work primarily to a Defence manager within a combined Defence and contractor team.

During the planning of exercises, the planner will be required to:

  • Assist in the development of Training Adversary Construct (TAC) appropriate to the each exercise in accordance with defence doctrine.
  • Participate in the development of OPFOR design and scenarios for use in the live and constructive simulation environments.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of OPFOR exercise products, plans, orders and instructions.
  • Assist in the development of exercise management tools for OPFOR.
  • Participate in, and lead when directed, exercise briefings and planning activities
  • Participate in reconnaissance to exercise areas as required or directed.
  • Facilitate the coordination of governance related requirements in support of OPFOR development.

 

During the delivery of training events, the Planner will be required to provide any or all of the following:

  • Participate in OPFOR STAFFEX and planning activities
  • Assist in the generation of OPFOR tasking for the land and aviation threat
  • Assist in the coordination of OPFOR events during exercises (FTX)
  • Assist in the coordination of out of exercise control of OPFOR with EXCON
  • Be prepared to act in a command role over OPFOR assets.

 

This position is a Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2019.

 

The Person

The Military Exercise Planner (OPFOR) will demonstrate:

  • Previous Military experience at the 04/05 level,
  • PSC(j);
  • Previous experience in an operational level Joint Force HQ, (operational preferred);
  • Previous experience in an operational level Coalition HQ, (operational preferred); and
  • Understanding of ADF Joint Warfare Doctrine and the conduct of training and training exercises in Defence.
  • Previous experience in a complex collective training environment.
  • Strong personal and professional skills and ability to liaise with other areas of Defence including senior Defence and civilian personnel.

 

Personal Qualities and Experience

Military Exercise Planner (OPFOR) will have a significant role in the planning and delivery of high level and complex exercise events and will work under very broad direction.  Often, the activities undertaken by the Military Exercise Planner (OPFOR) will be self-initiated and with minimal supervision.

Military Exercise Planner (OPFOR) will:

  • provide leadership to Defence and civilian teams;
  • must demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills; specifically, have the ability to communicate complex issues to a broad training audience;
  • build appropriate and effective business relationships;
  • assess and evaluate risk;
  • communicate effectively, both formally and informally; and
  • take initiative to identify requirements and achieve customer outcomes.

This position is only available to Australian citizens.  Permanent residents and working visa holders will not be considered, as the incumbent must hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance.  Australian citizenship is a prerequisite for this clearance, and this position.
