Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is built at Ravenhall in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria.
The new forensic mental health beds are located in a purpose built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards. This position is based in the Forensicare Outpatients Service at Ravenhall Correctional Centre.

 

About the role:

The position is part of the Ballerrt Yeram-boo-ee FMH Outpatient Service which provides specialist mental health treatment and support to prisoners with a mental illness, or suspected mental illness, requiring specialist assessment and/or intervention accommodated in mainstream and protection communities at Ravenhall Correctional Centre (RCC). Specifically the OT works as part of the early intervention and prevention service which is aimed at promoting better mental health outcomes for prisoners experiencing early signs of first onset mental illness. In addition to case management, the role of the Occupational Therapist is to plan, implement, evaluate and document Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team; including providing leadership to the group program.

 

Duties: 

  • Case management of prisoners with mental illness, using recovery focussed care.
  • Completion of occupational therapy assessments and intervention to support prisoners recovery
  • Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders to support positive outcomes
  • Provision of consultation to other services on supporting the occupational engagement of prisoners with mental illness

 

Qualification, skills and experience:

  • Current Registration with AHPRA.
  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and a commitment to working in a manner consistent with the code.
