Your role

You're in the Indian Ocean on a major multi-national exercise. Aircraft streak past overhead and submarines operate deep beneath you. The equipment and systems your team maintains are critical to the successful identification of incoming 'enemy' threats. This is no ordinary engineering challenge.

As an Electronics Engineer you’ll take responsibility for the repair and maintenance of high-tech onboard combat systems, which include:

  • radar
  • sonar
  • navigation
  • communications
  • electronic warfare
  • combat management system networks, and
  • weapons fire control.

At sea you will be the engineering authority responsible for the vessel’s combat and self-defence capabilities. On land your position will include duties such as combat system trials as well as the training and management of sailors.

Another major aspect of your role will be to stay abreast of combat system upgrades and developments. The Navy introduces new ships and electronic systems on a regular basis so your job will be constantly challenging and changing.

During times of updates and developments, you will be involved in:

  • monitoring system performance
  • developing modifications
  • evaluating repair schemes, and
  • supervising equipment trials.

Salary

  • Fully-paid officer training
  • Once trained, starting package approx. $77,000 p.a. plus superannuation
  • Numerous other benefits

Location

  • You will serve in fleet units and shore establishments around Australia on a rotational basis
  • Individual preferences for posting location will be taken into account where possible 
  • Much of your time will be spent at sea

Entry Requirements

  • Australian Citizen
  • Aged 17 - 50
