Your role
As a fully-qualified doctor – or a student of medicine – you'll be well aware of the need to respond to a wide variety of medical conditions, along with unexpected situations that may be outside your experience.
Now imagine the extra dimension the role takes on when your patients are Army personnel and you're working in a field hospital or on an exercise with elite troops. Or if your temporary 'practice' is a community that's been devastated by a natural disaster.
When you step up to the challenge of becoming an Army Doctor (Medical Officer), you'll work across many disciplines including:
- primary care
- occupational medicine
- trauma and rehabilitation
- sports medicine
- public health medicine
- tropical medicine
- medical administration, and
- population health.
The skills you acquire along the way will help you provide the highest standards of medical care, even in adverse conditions with minimal support and equipment.
In time you may apply for study streams that include orthopaedics and general surgery, emergency medicine, intensive care medicine and anaesthetics. And as an Army Officer you'll learn to be an inspirational leader and mentor.
Few medical positions offer the clinical variety and travel opportunities the Army can. If this sounds like a new challenge you'd like to accept, apply now (below).
