Currently seeking an experienced Building Inspector for an immediate start in the Eastern Suburbs.

Our client is a local council located in the Eastern Suburbs. They are currently seeking an experienced Building inspector for a 3-month contract to start immediately and finish at the end of September.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Provide accurate application of the Building Act, Regulations, codes, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Recommend creative solutions, within the regulatory context to resolve issues and mediate outcomes where appropriate.
  • Assist the Building team in checking and issuing Building Permits
  • Carry out Building Permit inspections and liaisons with customers
  • Undertake routine inspections of illegal building works
  • Inspections of damaged or dangerous buildings
  • Undertake Essential Safety Measures Audits of commercial industrial, institutional and retail premises within the municipality
  • Undertake Pool Barrier inspections within the municipality
  • Undertake Building Siting Report & Consent inspections and provide reports to the building team for use in determining the applications.
  • Update and maintain records relevant to processes and procedures set down in the Building team manual.
  • Respond to complaints in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist staff from other departments with investigation matter relating to building issues, prepare Notices and Orders and prepare briefs for Council legal team if required.

To be successful for the role you will possess the following:

  • A sound knowledge of the Building Act and Regulations and an ability to interpret and apply the legislation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of investigation and evidence gathering techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service in a timely professional manner
  • Interpersonal and negotiation skills with an ability to liaise with customers, council officers, management and Councillors
  • Skills in time management, setting priorities and organising work to meet timelines, objectives and policies
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to share skills and knowledge with the team.
  • Computer and key board literacy skills.
  • Have tertiary qualification in Building Inspection
  • Be registered with the Building Practitioners Board as a Building Inspector
  • Have a current Victorian car driver’s licence.
