Purpose of the role

The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.

The purpose of the Environmental Compliance Officer position is to investigate claims of unauthorised and/or unsafe constructions and natural environment matters to support the health and wellbeing of the public.

 

Key Relationships

  • You will engage regularly with the Coordinator Health and Environmental Compliance on results and objectives achieved against targets in line with council and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with and assist the team, coordinator, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
     

Key Responsibilities

You will mainly be responsible for the delivery of construction and ecological compliance and protection activities, respond to related customer requests, and undertake reasonable follow up to achieve timely outcomes.

You will work autonomously to carry out scheduled inspections and, where necessary to achieve the required compliance outcome, issue penalty infringement notices, instigate legal proceedings and represent Council to provide evidence in court. Occasional after-hours work is compulsory for inspections and investigations as and when required.

If you are a proactive, confident and resilient individual with excellent communication skills and have prior experience in environmental building compliance and with thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory authority guidelines and standards, we want to hear from you.


Essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislations, regulations, statutory authority guidelines.
  • A SafeWork NSW white card (general construction induction card).
  • Current Driver’s Licence Class C
  • Carry out inspections and surveillance after normal business hours as required.
