Purpose of the role

The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.

The purpose of the Environmental Health Officer position is to undertake planned inspections of regulated premises and implement Council’s statutory and policy obligations in relation to public and environmental health within their designated geographical area in Bayside Council.

 

Key Responsibilities

As the Environmental Health Officer, you will be accountable for implementing decisions made by the governing body, General Manager and Directors of Council. You will facilitate the delivery of health and environmental compliance activities and monitor all surveillance activities for regulated premises to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance and the health and wellbeing of the community.

You will use your exceptional communication and customer service skills to recognise and resolve customer concerns and provide professional and knowledgeable advice and information to the community, Council and other stakeholders to raise awareness of community safety matters, whilst balancing community expectations, staffing and resources and government requirements in a politically sensitive environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory authority guidelines and standards
  • A SafeWork NSW white card (general construction induction card).
  • Current Drivers Licence Class C
  • Carry out inspections and health surveillance after normal business hours as required
