ELSA’s main business is Systems Integration for the Australian Defence Force (ADF), with an emerging presence in the law enforcement, intelligence and cyber markets.
The role
As Systems Safety Engineer, you will shape the development of ELSA’s systems safety program, managing safety engineering activities and services across all ELSA Projects and the Bids team, along with the Senior Systems Engineer - Safety.
With support from the Systems Engineering Functional Manager and Senior Systems Engineer - Safety, it is expected you will achieve the following:
- Undertake system safety activities in accordance with recognised system safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E.
- Apply a system safety approach to address hazards relevant to systems, products and equipment (hardware and software) across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
- Delivery of safety artefacts to meet cost and schedule constraints of assigned projects/bids
- Develop strong working relationships with the customer’s engineering team to ensure engineering deliverables are delivered on time and with minimal customer feedback
- Assist with the Safety Engineering framework benefitting internal and external stakeholders through continuous improvement and developing workforce capabilities
To be successful in the role you must have:
- NV1 clearance or the ability to attain
- Tertiary qualification(s) in Engineering or Science
- Systems Engineering lifecycle experience
- An understanding of the legal and contractual systems safety requirements
- A broad understanding of systems safety management across hardware, software and system integration development
- Experience in Planning and Scheduling
- Customer relationship management experience
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required
Highly desirable skills, knowledge and abilities include:
- System safety engineering qualifications, or the willingness to obtain them with company support
- Experience in leading a small team
- Communications systems background
- Military Land System Projects experience
- ADF contracting standards
- Broad knowledge of ILS and production
