About the Opportunity

Council is transforming the Guildford Community and Youth Centres into a multipurpose community centre during 2018/2019. This will involve:

  • Minor works to improve connectivity between the two centres and increase utilisation of facilities.
  • Extension of hours of operation and use.
  • Improving community engagement in Guildford and develop new onsite services.
  • Activation of the centre throughout the day including programs and services that respond to local community needs.

The newly created Centre Coordinator position will be responsible for supporting the establishment of the ‘one-stop shop’ community centre model at Guildford Community Centre, in partnership with other Centre-based staff.

The position will also utilise high level community liaison skills to oversee the day to day centre operations, improve community engagement in Guildford and develop new onsite services and programs.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all aspects of Centre management including operational and maintenance issues, policy and procedure development, bookings and general administration, marketing and promotion, partnership development, general housekeeping and centre upkeep, community liaison and the coordination of onsite Lifelong Learning programs.
  • Ensuring the provision of a safe, resourced, accessible, welcoming and activated community centre.
  • Delivering, with excellence, a variety of customer service functions and ensuring the centre acts as a catalyst for dissemination of key community and Council information.
  • Ongoing community engagement and partnership development to maximise utilisation of the facility
  • Developing new onsite services, and programs that respond to the diverse needs of the local community.
  • Record keeping, report writing and general office duties with meticulous attention to detail.

You will have a high level of initiative, a ‘can do’ attitude, and be both people and results focused.

Council coordinates a network of staffed community centres and arts facilities across Cumberland, achieved in partnership with community groups, volunteer groups and not -for-profit organisations. These community centres support the delivery of a diverse range of programs, services and events for community members and visitors and in doing so form hubs from which community centre activities and initiatives are delivered.

The position will work closely with team members located at other Community Centres. As a fellow place activists you will join a collective of determined, inclusive and progressive thinkers and fulfil a key role within the growing Place Activation Team of Council’s Culture and Activation Unit which aims to improve connections between the people and places of Cumberland. The role will also have a high level of interaction with the local Guildford community as well as collaboration with other sections of Council.


Salary: Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award. This position is placed in Band 3, Level 2, Grade A of Cumberland / Auburn salary structure with a salary range of $1,343.84 per week up to $1,477.85 per week, plus superannuation. Commencement salary will depend upon qualifications, experience and competencies.

Conditions of Employment: This is a permanent full-time position, with a flex-time or RDO arrangement available. This position will be located at the Guilford Community Centre and also work across other community facilities and the Merrylands Office. Please note that attendance of meetings and engagement activities after operating hours may be required.
