Primary purpose of the role

The Principal Investigator manages and leads the Waste Crime Taskforce, providing advice and guidance to team members on investigative strategies, processes and protocols, as well as assisting the Chief Investigator to develop systems, policies and procedures to support and define the Waste Crime Taskforce’s investigative response.

About the Role

The role is responsible for leading and managing the EPA’s Waste Crime Taskforce to respond to high profile, organised and complex waste crime offences through intelligence-led investigations and other innovative regulatory actions aimed at preventing waste crime and disrupting illegal business models.

The Waste Crime Taskforce is a multiskilled team comprising experienced criminal investigators, operations officers, a principal legal officer and intelligence analyst, and works collaboratively with existing teams responsible for waste regulation within the EPA, including the Waste and Resource Recovery Branch, Legal Services Branch and the Intelligence and Analysis Unit, as well as external agencies, such as the NSW Police Force.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced criminal investigation manager to lead and manage a multiskilled team aimed at making a significant contribution to preventing and disrupting serious and organised waste crime offences. 

Essential requirements

•    Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage an investigation taskforce.
•    Excellent understanding, extensive experience and demonstrated capacity in investigating criminal or regulatory offences including competence in investigation methodology, evidence handling and the interpretation of legislation.
•    Experience in surveillance and covert operations.
•    Current Australian drivers licence

To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:

•    Knowledge of and experience in implementing regulatory and other innovative strategies aimed to prevent or disrupt serious and organised crime or regulatory offences.
