Employment Type: Part-time fixed term contract
Hours of work: 3 days per week (0.6 FTE) Salary $65,000 per rata plus superannuation

Position objectives

This position is responsible for building and strengthening the VLGA membership base and the engagement and participation of members in VLGA programs and activities.

  • Promote membership and ensure database maintenance
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and take a flexible approach to work
  • Ability to ensure the confidentiality of work Ability to work well and have a strong engagement with VLGA members and non-members
  • Ability to work autonomously but also as part of a small team
  • Travel – metro, regional and rural. This is an ‘in the field’ position, travel throughout Victoria is essential, with some overnight stay.
  • Inform VLGA strategic direction, programs and activities following feedback and intelligence obtained through engagement with members and non-members.
  • Develop a VLGA member pack (the offer) for induction and member acquistion purposes


The Membership Engagement Officer will oversee the retention of current metropolitan, regional and rural membership

The Membership Engagement Officer will actively campaign for new membership. Central to this position is an important level of skill and experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders.

  • Create and implement a project plan of engagement with the 79 Victorian Councils
  • Maintain an up-to-date data base

Membership

  • Actively engage with VLGA member councils on an ongoing basis
  • Identify and create a strategy around non-member councils to get them to see the benefit of membership

Organisational relationships

Reports to: To be confirmed
Supervises/Manages: Not applicable
Internal Liaisons: All staff and board members
External Liaisons: VLGA local government members (councils) & non-members including mayors, councillors and officers


Key accountability areas

  • Development and implementation of a sector wide engagement plan, metro, regional and rural.
  • Develop and maintain an active database of members, non-members, key issues, key contacts and key projects
  • Research the impact of key external initiatives on VLGA membership
  • Represent the VLGA at meetings, forums and workshops
  • Seek opportunities for partnership and funding on projects of mutual benefit

• In depth understanding of local government, and engagement
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders on key issues using a
variety of media (in collaboration with the communications advisor)
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills
• Keen understanding on creating and maintaining a data base
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs, web-based and social networking programs.
• Experience in CRM and database platforms

a manner appropriate to purpose and audience.

Experience
• Relevant qualifications in membership engagement, business development and/or relevant social
or political sciences or related fields
• 2-5 years’ experience in membership and engagement
• Project management experience
• Current drivers licence (use of personal vehicle will be reimbursed according to ATO requirements)
