Unique opportunity for a Registered Nurse with critical care nursing experience to work with the multidisciplinary team in the Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine at The Prince of Wales Hospital. This is the only Hyperbaric/Recompression facility in a public hospital in NSW. The facility provides highly specialised care to patients with a wide variety of medical conditions, from Decompression Illness to Non-Healing Wounds. Full training is provided on an Internationally recognised Hyperbaric Attendants Course. The course is of five days duration plus 10 hours of practical training post completion of the theoretical component; topics covered include Physics of Diving, Decompression Illness, Gas Poisoning, Wound Healing, Anaerobic Infections, Oxygen Delivery Systems and practical scenarios.
This is a Mon- Fri service, operating a 24 hr 7 day/week emergency service. Our nurses work 10 hour shifts (ie 4 rostered days per week) with no rostered night duty. On call requirement up to 5 times per fortnight. These on calls could be mid week, weekends or over public holidays (24hrs).

Temporary full time position available now until June 2019.

The Prince of Wales Hospital is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney's eastern suburbs that serves all of New South Wales.

We are affiliated with the University of NSW, one of the premier medical teaching facilities in Australia. This assists us to provide excellence in care in conjunction with our commitment to clinical teaching and medical research.

The hospital is situated close to the city, Bondi Beach, excellent shopping facilities, and within walking distance to Coogee Beach.

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality nursing care to patients/clients of the Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) consistent with SESLHD and POWH policies, procedures and standards.

1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
2. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
3. Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
5. Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
6. Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles.
7. Demonstrated recent extensive post registration experience in critical care nursing.
8. Ability to pass medical examination for fitness to enter a hyperbaric chamber (must meet Diving Medical Criteria AS/NS2299).
