Apple and Pear Australia Limited (APAL) is an industry representative body and not-for-profit membership organisation that works to add genuine value to Australia’s commercial apple and pear growers. It is a unique peak body with both a commercial and industry aspect. APAL owns, licenses and manages a number of fresh produce brands which includes the global leading apple brand Pink Lady®.
The Head of Government Relations and Advocacy is a role that leads and develops policy and strategy to advance Australian apple and pear industry interests. This role will ensure maximum representation of member and APAL through advocacy, policy and lobbying at a Local, State and Federal Government level. You will also represent APAL internationally through your work with the Australian Governments country representation, foreign commercial interests where appropriate, and with foreign Governments, to ensure the Australian apple and pear industry interests are met.
You will work closely with local and national media and the APAL Communications team to ensure policy is appropriately presented and aligned. You will develop and foster strong relationships with external stakeholders at all levels. Ideally you will have a background in advocacy and policy. Experience in Agriculture would be well regarded.
Key Accountabilities:
- Development of policy to support the apple and pear industry strategy and the APAL strategy
- Delivery of forward-thinking policy and strategy which will have a meaningful, beneficial and sustainable impact on the apple and pear industry
- Strategic analysis of current Government policy and initiatives to discover gaps and areas of opportunity
- Awareness of political events and policy which may affect or impact the industry across Local, State and Federal Government channels
- The development and management of an effective professional network across industry, Government, business and media
Qualifications and Experience required:
- Relevant Bachelors or Masters Degree
- Previous or current experience in advocacy and policy, experience in agriculture preferred
- International advocacy experience well regarded
- Strong organisational skills and ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Self-motivated, well organised with a high sense of personal accountability
- Strong stakeholder management skills to build constructive and effective relationships at all levels
- Proven success in achieving strategic priorities across diverse organisations
- Demonstrable proficiency in presentation and public speaking
