Job Title:  Principal Council Governance Officer

Agency overview
The Office of Local Government is focussed on strengthening the local government sector across NSW. The Office works collaboratively with the local government sector and other stakeholders to implement solutions that will support councils to deliver the services and infrastructure that their communities need, both now and into the future.

The Office is part of the Planning and Environment Cluster and located on the beautiful South Coast of NSW.

About the Role:
The Principal Council Governance Officer is responsible for delivering, monitoring and evaluating diverse and innovative policy initiatives and/or programs to strengthen the governance of councils.
 
• Provide timely, high quality advice to councils on best practice governance and compliance
• Communicate and establish effective partnerships with councils and other key stakeholders
• Undertake strategic planning and reporting to inform policy decision making
 
Essential requirements:
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent, relevant professional experience and training.
• Knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of government, its operating environment and governing legislation.
• Knowledge and understanding of councils’ operating environment and governing legislation.
 
To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:
• Experience with understanding and interpreting government legislation.
