Library Technology – Team Leader

Permanent – Full Time, 70 hours per fortnight

Salary Range = $68,455.08 - $86,404.36/- per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

Business Unit

The purpose of the Northern Beaches Library Service is; Libraries for Life, Enhancing Leisure and Learning. The service:

  • Provides efficient customer focused library services that deliver value to our community
  • Provides library facilities and opportunities for literacy, lifelong learning, creativity, work, relaxation and play, and
  • Develops staff capabilities and undertakes business initiatives to make on-going service improvements for our community.

There are six library branches across the Northern Beaches Local Government Area; Dee Why, Glen Street, Forestville, Manly, Mona Vale, Warringah Mall and four Community Libraries at Avalon, Terrey Hills, Seaforth and Harbord.

Our library branches implement and manage library loans, programs, local history, genealogy, information and digital resources. Remote access is also available to our online catalogue and e-Resources.

The Role and Responsibilities

The Library Technology Team Leader reports to the Service Development Manager.  The Team Leader sets priorities and provides strategic direction and leadership on the delivery and continuous improvement of library technology across the service to meet community needs and expectations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Library Technology team to ensure they deliver and maintain a quality customer-focused service
  • Lead and manage the development and enhancement of the library technology functions to meet and improve service standards and the needs of the organisation and the community
  • Create a strong team environment with an open communication culture
  • Contribute to the objectives of the Service Development Team
  • Assist with the management of operational and capital expenditure budgets within a 5% variance as directed
  • Facilitate Library Technology team meetings to provide direction on service development, budget allocation, expenditure and future planning
  • Lead the team in the continual improvement of  library technology by reviewing and monitoring innovative, emerging and appropriate technologies
  • Develop partnership with the Business Improvement Facilitator to determine staff and customer training schedules
  • Develop partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and expand services and outcomes
  • Promote the available technology to stakeholders and the community, and
  • Undertake circulation desk shifts and customer service duties as appropriate.

Selection Criteria

  • A university degree, or equivalent, with experience or demonstrated knowledge of innovative emerging library technology practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of people to build a culture of service and improvement, and
  • Experience in driving operational improvements and in leading change in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to be a role model for Council values and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and to provide strategic direction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects with competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in the evaluation and assessment of library technology, specifically the ability to seek out innovative uses of technology to further library service goals
  • Demonstrated experience of website management skills and digital initiatives
