An exciting opportunity is available for a suitably qualified and experienced registered nurse to apply for a permanent full time position as a Community Complex Wound Management Transitional Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Practitioner with the Northern Sydney Home Nursing Service.
 
Based at Macquarie Hospital, the Transitional Nurse Practitioner/ Nurse Practitioner Complex Wound Management  works within Northern Sydney Home Nursing Service (NSHNS) and Acute Post Acute Service (APAC) across NSLHD, in collaboration with the community nursing teams and other primary health care providers in determining, implementing and evaluating the service.  The Nurse Practitioner is an expert wound practitioner and supports the educational and professional development of community nursing and allied health staff, patients, carers and families. In particular, one of the role’s core functions is to support the community nursing staff in the provision of effective, appropriate evidence based wound care, enhancing and extending their knowledge and skill base through the provision of expert assessment, consultancy, care planning and education.


A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP role includes the assessment and management of patients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to initiation of diagnostic investigations, prescribing of medications and direct referral of patients to other health care professionals. The NP role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers (ANMC 2006). NPs practice collaboratively as an interdependent member of the multidisciplinary health care team and provide autonomous, patient centered care.

What you'll be doing

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A registered nurse appointed as such to a position approved by the Secretary NSW Health and who is endorsed by the Board, to practise as a nurse practitioner. Registered Authorised Nurse Practitioner with APHRA or Registered Nurse undertaking or willing to enrol in a Tertiary Master’s Program for Nurse Practitioner to be completed within 3 years. Minimum of 3 years fulltime equivalent advanced nursing practice during the last six years appropriate to the specialty area (or working towards within the next 3 years).
  • Demonstrated effective communication, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Ability to independently assess, investigate and implement appropriate treatment for patients within advanced nursing practice guidelines.
  • Demonstrated clinical competencies and achievement in chronic and complex wound nursing practice.
  • Current NSW driver’s licence.
