We currently have a fixed term 24 month opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in Rail Infrastructure Construction to join our Network Delivery Major Works team. .

This position is responsible for delivery of Track Renewal projects. You will be required to work on various project sites which will include working outside of normal hours and weekend work.

Previous experience in a similar role and the ability to work within a team environment and lead on site works along with your stakeholder engagement skills will ensure your success in this role. 

Key responsibilities for this role are (but not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain project plans and scopes, programs, risk management and safety plans, cost plans and cash flows within approved scope and budgets in consultation with all stakeholders.
  • Liaise with client, contractors, Alliance partners, stakeholders and Construction discipline heads in order to integrate Network Construction disciplines as well as integration of Network activities within Project/Program schedules.
  • Oversee and develop integrated construction methodologies in consultation with construction units to plan resources, estimate costs and develop pricing for preliminary and detailed firm pricing.
  • Conduct and implement risk management and value engineering activities throughout the project life cycle, conducting consultations with Network Construction disciplines, external contractors and other stakeholders in relation to the project/program of works.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of construction safety management systems and undertake the role of Principal Contractor's representative when required.
  • Maintain close liaison with on-site operations, maintenance providers and network operations to ensure project/program objectives and infrastructure standards are achieved.
  • Undertake advance inspections and negotiations for projects to arrange and advise on scopes of work, interface management strategies and integration strategies for construction works.
  • Participate in the development of bids for expressions of interest, tenders and other proposals for all project opportunities.

To be considered for this role you must hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a drivers licence. Please upload a copy of your qualification when submitting your application (a JP certified copy may be required at a later stage).

To succeed in this role you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge of Rail Infrastructure Construction and Maintenance Standards, operations and practices and its inter-relativity with rail operations.
  • High level of management skills within a multi-disciplinary infrastructure project environment.
  • High written and oral communication, negotiation, motivational and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of skill in estimating, planning, organising and programming of railway infrastructure construction and renewal projects.
  • Substantial skills in planning, monitoring and forecasting project and operational budgets.
  • Substantial skill in software applications applicable to forward planning and project management of infrastructure projects.

The starting salary is $103,990 plus superannuation and penalty rates. In addition to a generous superannuation scheme, Queensland Rail also offers free train travel to and from work on duty days and a healthy work/ life balance.

This position will require travel throughout the Queensland Rail network including regionally at times.
