Agency overview
The Department of Planning & Environment is the lead NSW Government agency in planning for a growing NSW. The Department is going through an exciting period of organisational and operational change.

The Department’s two related agencies - the Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH) and the Office of Local Government - support the conservation and protection of the environment and an effective local government sector in NSW. Several other entities associated with the Department include the Environment Protection Authority, statutory trusts responsible for zoos, parks and gardens, independent assessment and planning bodies, and development corporations.

About the Role:
This role works closely with the Chief Investigator, Specialist Investigations, NSW Office of Environment & Heritage and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA). The role of the Senior Investigator is to provide investigation support to the Regional Operations Division, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Heritage Division of the OEH.

The role investigates breaches of environmental legislation administered by OEH, including native vegetation, biodiversity and Aboriginal cultural heritage offences.

Primary purpose of the role
Support and conduct investigations of serious or major conservation and environmental incidents and suspected breaches of relevant legislation on behalf of OEH, the EPA and other cluster agencies and to conduct enforcement and investigation training.

Essential requirements:
• Current Australian drivers licence
• Travel and work after hours when required
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with contemporary criminal investigation techniques, strategies and legal requirements.
• Knowledge and experience in surveillance and covert operations.

To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:
• Law enforcement or regulatory background
• Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, policies and procedures

Job Notes:
A Recruitment Pool may be established for future temporary and ongoing roles with similar focus capabilities. The Recruitment Pool may be available to hiring managers from DPE and other NSW Public Sector agencies over a 12-month period. 

Please note; the Department is re-locating to Parramatta at the end of 2019.

While these roles are advertised as temporary, there is potential availability of ongoing employment at the same level within the business area
