The role  
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Policy, this position will play an important role in the development, review and implementation of the Financial Management Assurance framework.  Significantly contributing to the construction of new financial control policy you will oversee the implementation of solutions to identified control risks.   Specifically, you will update the framework to meet legislative requirements of the Financial Accountability Act 2009 (FAA) and coordinate the development of the Department's ASAE 3402 Assurance Reports on Controls at a Service Organisation program.  

You will have the opportunity to identify control weaknesses and design practical solutions, to mitigate risks, impacting on financial strategies across the Department's Divisions and Commercialised Business Units (CBU).  Additionally, your regular liaison with key stakeholders will determine and direct the work to be performed by each Division and CBU within the department to culminate in the preparation of the CFO Statement to form part of the department's annual financial statements in accordance with the FAA.

The successful person
As the successful candidate you will have significant experience in finance and audit related roles, this will be combined with your knowledge of the Financial Accountability Act 2009, the Australian Accounting Standards (including Interpretations), the Auditing and Assurance Standards, the Financial Reporting Requirements for Queensland Government Agencies and the Department of Health Financial Management Practice Manual (FMPM).   You will be able to speak to your experience to identify and assess an organisation's financial internal controls and you will have the ability to identify control weaknesses and design practical solutions to mitigate risks.

You will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce high quality documentation with an emphasis on comprehensive reports.   Demonstrating the ability to effectively consult and liaise with key stakeholders to influence and achieve necessary outcomes, you successfully build and maintain productive professional and consultative relationships.   Additionally, you will have an analytical background with proven experience in utilising this expertise to identify issues and develop innovative, proactive solutions on complex matters.  You will have a strong focus on meeting deadlines, and can operate independently with flexibility and creativity in line with the broader objectives of the unit.
