Forensicare is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. At Forensicare, we work to meet the needs of consumers with serious mental illness across Victoria. We deliver a range of programs for patients at different stages of recovery; from early intervention and prevention, inpatient care, rehabilitation and community transition support. These services are delivered through:  

 

  • Forensic mental health hospital services
  • Prison mental health services
  • Community Forensic Mental Health Service

In 2018 we will be significantly expanding our services at Thomas Embling Hospital and we are looking for highly motivated, dedicated mental health nurses to join our experienced existing teams.

About the role:

Working within a multidisciplinary team our new positions will be delivering care within a secure setting, practicing within a recovery framework and using sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and maintain a high standard of patient care.  The provision of care you will be involved in delivering will allow you to work across a number of settings including the acute and rehabilitation units of the service.

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is responsible for providing consumer based mental health nursing interventions as well as coordinating the resources and processes required to maintain a high standard of patient care through effective clinical leadership. The ANUM ensures adherence to organisational policies and procedures, professional standards and promotes staff education and development. The role provides management support of the unit with the Nurse Unit Manager.

 

Duties:

  • Promotes unit culture by challenging staff and providing support to the Unit manager
  • Initiates and coordinates unit projects and participate in committees that contribute to service development
  • Demonstrates sound communication skills in recording and reporting information to the interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in the training and supervision of nursing staff and students

 

Qualification, skills and experience: 

  • Hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Possess current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • Knowledge of contemporary and ethical mental health nursing practice
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to manage resources on a shift
