We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an Urban Planning Adviser to join our Response and Recovery team.  This position plays a critical role providing strategic input into Citytrain service planning as well as facilitating planning outcomes.  

Responsibilities include:

• Undertake research and evaluation of urban planning, land use, development and demographic impacts on transport demand, particularly rail-based public transport. Provide recommendations on approaches, sensitivity and variability of demographic and land use parameters on transport demand.
• Ensure the appropriate incorporation and/or alignment of urban planning and land use policy and study recommendations, outcomes and strategic direction (internal and external) into Citytrain strategic service models.
• Provide expert advice on urban planning and land use principles, methods, policies and approaches with particular regard to integration with transport planning.
• Evaluate impact of land use and demographic data and forecasts on the provision of rail services.
• Undertake spatial data analysis and visualisation of demographic and land use information.
• Advise on economic, social and environmental sustainability measurements that validate long term benefits of future service proposals. 

To be successful:

Tertiary qualifications in urban planning or related field with some experience in a transport or planning environment will be highly advantageous.  You will need to have a demonstrated ability to work in an autonomous manner coupled with an ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement.  In addition you will also need:

• Extensive knowledge of urban and regional planning and land use methodologies, trends, policies, plans and studies, especially with regard to implications and integration with rail public transport policies and studies.
• Sound level of skill in rail public transport operations planning in a high density metropolitan environment.
• Substantial interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
• Substantial level of analytical, research, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to travel intra and interstate as required.

Starting salary: $90,573 + superannuation
