About the role
Hunter New England Mental Health (HNEMH) is seeking a dynamic Psychiatrist to provide clinical management and treatment of SMHSOP patients within the scope of practice granted by the Hunter New England Health (HNEH) Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
About you
The ideal candidate will be looking for an opportunity to:
- Provide high quality, evidence based and patient focused psychiatric services for SMHSOP inpatients. Working between:
- The Mater Mental Health Centre's Mental Health Unit for Older Persons (MHUOP). This is a 22 bed facility, of which six beds are reserved for severe BPSD (Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia)
- Ibis Lodge, an intermediate to long stay facility for people with dementia who have moderate to severe BPSD at Morisset Hospital. The Model of Care for Ibis lodge is currently under review. It has 23 beds.
- Community Mental Health Teams
- Home/Residential Aged care visits
- The Mental Health Aged Care Partnership Initiative (MHACPI), which involves NSW Health input into non-government aged care facilities to care for people with BPSD. The current unit is situated in Newcastle and has ten beds.
- Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision.
- Participate in quality activities, professional development and continuing education
Skills and experience
Senior Medical Officer with current Authority to Practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist's (State) Award. Advanced Certificate in Psychiatry of Old Age or equivalent appropriate experience in the field of Old Age Psychiatry. Applications will be considered from candidates who will meet these criteria within the next six months.
