The Bureau of Health Information (BHI) is a board-governed organisation that provides independent reports on the performance of the NSW public healthcare system. What you'll be doing

The Senior Communications Officer develops and implements a range of communication activities, including media relations, writing and editing web content, reports and articles, and preparing high-level correspondence and briefings.

Reporting to the Lead Communications Officer, the position is pivotal to BHI’s public relations, external and internal communications. BHI’s communications function supports the organisation’s core objectives and enhances its position as a credible source of independent information on the performance of the public health system in NSW.

Selection Criteria

  1. High-level written, editing and proofing skills, including writing for different communication channels.
  2. Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into plain English for a range of internal and external audiences, including the media and health consumers.
  3. Strong organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to work on a range of ongoing projects and manage competing demands, develop innovative solutions and make sound decisions in order to meet deadlines.
  4. Demonstrated media liaison experience, either as a journalist or working in a communications team. The ability to provide media training and supporting materials.
  5. Demonstrated experience in generating media opportunities, including awareness of emerging trends within the health and government sectors.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff, stakeholders, including the general community, healthcare professional and government groups, and the media, to achieve communication outcomes.
  7. Strong self-motivation with demonstrated capacity to work independently and as an effective and productive member of a team.
  8. Tertiary qualifications in health or science, communication, public affairs or journalism, or equivalent experience.
