Overview

You will work in a team environment assessing development applications with due regard to the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, the Vegetation SEPP and Environment Protection & Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and Council’s statutory obligations with respect to threatened species and ecological communities.

You will also be expected to provide technical assistance for other matters requiring environmental assessment and advice.

Your New Role

Reporting directly to the Team Leader – Environmental Planning and Assessment, the focus of this position is to:

  • Assess development proposals in relation to likely impacts on flora and fauna habitats for Part IV and some Part V developments
  • Prepare/present information relating to native flora and fauna
  • Provide technical and legislation advice for other matters requiring environmental assessment
  • Liaise and negotiate with State Government Agencies and the private sector
  • Carry out flora & fauna surveys

The advertised salary includes a discretionary weekly market component which may be payable to candidates with exceptional skills, knowledge and experience.

About You

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • A Natural Sciences degree or related discipline
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of ecological processes and relevant legislation
  • Experience in environmental assessment including flora and fauna surveys
  • NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme Accreditation, or willingness to obtain
  • Class C Drivers Licence
