The Regulatory Operations team is a multidisciplinary team, which uses a number of regulatory tools to respond to high risk regulatory matters in accordance with the National VET Regulator’s risk management framework.
About the role
The Principal Regulatory Officer may supervise a small team of regulatory operations officers to analyse allocated regulatory matters and determine the appropriate regulatory tool (including audit) to be used for the collection of information or evidence.
The Principal Regulatory Officer is responsible for carrying out a range of duties including:
- supporting the Manager Regulatory Operations by ensuring that the nationally approved standards are met through the application of a risk-intelligence focused approach to regulation;
- supervising a team of regulatory operations officers in the performance of their duties in responding to a wide range of regulatory matters;
- leading complex or contentious regulatory activities and making recommendations about compliance with the Standards;
- analysing and interpreting the information gathered including making judgements regarding the requirement to take further action which may include a criminal or civil sanction;
- preparing briefs and reports in support of the use of administrative sanctions or coercive powers for the Commissioners;
- contributing to continuous improvement through the identification of improved processes and outcomes.
About you
- An in-depth knowledge of the vocational education and training (VET) sector, the international student sector and the National Skills Framework
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying the legislation, policies and guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex, contentious and/or high risk regulatory activities using research, analytical, conceptual, risk management, interviewing and investigation skills to evaluate compliance with prescribed standards.
- Using a range of regulatory tools to evaluate information and collect evidence for the purpose of making recommendations about compliance and regulatory responses
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
- Time management, prioritising and meeting deadlines
