Ashdown People are recruiting for an experienced Senior Policy Officer to work for a NSW Government Department based in North Sydney. This position is a full time contract role witll the end of the year with the potential of being extended. this position is a grade 9/10 position and the pay range on offer is between $56-$63 per hour plus superannuation

The main purpose of the role is to provide policy advice and to develop and support the implementation of best practice policies, programs, projects and activities for the  organisation , to support the achievement of the organisations main objectives in relation to alcohol and other drugs. 

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Managing and undertaking policy and program development, review and evaluation of projects  address current and emerging issues in relation to alcohol and other drugs 
  • Providing advice and support to senior executives, and staff across the organisation to consistently interpret and apply policies and practices in relation to alcohol and other drugs 
  • Preparing high quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy, discussion papers, and circulars to inform, respond to requests, or initiate consideration of new policy initiatives 
  • Liaising, communicating, and consulting with key staff across the organisation's  stakeholder representatives to secure their engagement and ensure effective interface on policy and program development, planning and implementation 
  • Leading and participating in quantitative and qualitative research to address policy issues and inform policy development 
  • Exploring and evaluating new policy approaches, including undertaking cost-benefit analyses and impact assessment, in order to provide sound strategic advice on their potential for application 
To Be Successful:
  • Previous experience as a Senior Policy Officer, preferable in NSW Government organisations
  • Nursing, Midwifery and/or other clinical qualifications 
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem solving capabilities 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills
