We are currently seeking a well rounded and versatile Vessel Operator/ Maintainer to join our team in Garden Island, supporting the Western Australia Support Group (WASG) Contract working on defence vessels in our inshore fleet.
It is essential to hold a minimum of Master
This is a sea going and shore position where the incumbent is responsible to provide professional seamanship and engineering support for the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel and associated equipment.
Along with general seamanship and engineering tasks, other duties will include:
- Operating all equipment and machinery on board FMSC vessels in a safe manner
- Performing routine maintenance and vessel husbandry
- Participating in drills/evolution
- Performing all relevant contractual tasks e.g., tug work, fuelling and general harbour services
- Performing any additional duties as directed within competency and skill level, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation
To be successful in these roles you will have significant experience in maritime service organisations as a mariner on vessels of similar size, and a sound knowledge of Navy or commercial maritime operating practices. Outstanding organisational and communication skills with a flexible attitude and the ability to work in a close knit team environment are vital.
Applicants must satisfy eligibility requirements to be granted a Commonwealth security clearance and hold a current AFP clearance.
