Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced permanent full time Media Advisor to join the Community Development and Events Business Unit based in Gladstone.
The purpose of this position is to develop and maintain strategic relationships with local, state and national media to sustain a council media profile which supports council priorities and strategies. Central to this role is the effective management of day to day and long-term council issues in the media, and fostering an organisational culture that is media savvy, responsive, creative and strategic. This position will provide advice to executive management, the Mayor and Councillors on short-term and long-term media strategies.
The Media Advisor will have a well-developed sense of political acumen and the confidence and ability to build and maintain close working relationships with Council’s executive leadership team, the Chief Executive Officer, Mayor and Councillors.
About you
• Degree in Communications, Journalism (or a related discipline) with relevant experience and expertise to perform the responsibilities of the role.
• Advanced writing skills and experience producing communication and marketing collateral.
• High level skills and experience in community engagement planning and the provision of advice.
• Legally able to drive a motor vehicle in Queensland.
