The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Reporting to the Director Registrations, the Professional Officer’s role is to provide high level clinical and professional advice in the management of notifications, registrations and disciplinary matters.

In this role you will:

  • Accurately assess and process applications for registration from local and overseas trained pharmacist and in a manner that is consistent with AHPRA policies, procedures and standards and the requirements of the National Law
  • Contribute to the development of a nationally consistent and rigorous oral pharmacy examination which is in line with the Pharmacy Board of Australia's policies and guidelines
  • Coordinate and conduct legislation assessments for applicants for registration as a pharmacist
  • Provide professional advice to internal and external stakeholders regarding the registration standards and requirements for limited, provisional and general registration as a pharmacist
  • Prepare Agenda papers and provide expert professional pharmaceutical and clinical advice to the Registrations and Examination Committee of the Pharmacy Board of Australia
  • Contribute as required to policy development affecting contemporary pharmacy practice and the impacts on health regulation

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary Degree in Pharmacy and unconditional registration to practise as a pharmacist in Australia
  • Broad based general pharmacy practice experience with a well-developed understanding of the legislation affecting pharmacy practice in Australia.
  • Prior experience working with pharmacy students and interns
  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant field and experience in Pharmaceutical Education in tertiary sector or clinical area desirable
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislative, policy and procedural requirements together with demonstrated knowledge of ethical and professional practice standards.
  • Demonstrated high level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills coupled with the ability to liaise and interact with clients and stakeholders at all levels across both the public and private sectors
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to negotiate successful outcomes in a complex and sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
