About the Position

Located within the Planning and Environment Directorate, the City Planning Branch takes a strategic approach with long-term planning and policy development to manage the City’s growth and development while protecting and conserving our natural resources and heritage.

The Conservation Partnerships Officer provides expertise and advice relevant to the maintenance and enhancement of the city’s natural environment and in doing so, implement the Nature Conservation Strategy and the City of Gold Coast’s corporate objectives relating to the natural environment.

Key position responsibilities

  • Implement private land conservation policies, programs and strategies to deliver conservation extension support and guidance to private landholders
  • Collaborate with senior officers and management in the development and delivery of policy and programs for habitat restoration and nature conservation
  • Provide advice to private landholders, regarding the on-ground management of their properties, to manage environmental threats and improve ecological value and function
  • Prepare conservation management and habitat restoration plans

About you

  • The ability to prioritise, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) with an ability to:
    • Prepare written reports and plans
    • Develop and deliver verbal presentations to a varied audience, and communicate clear explanations regarding habitat restoration and maintenance, e.g. ecological restoration techniques
    • Build and maintain appropriate and productive relationships with team members, professional staff, clients and a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to apply initiative, judgement and project management skills including the application of innovative techniques, methodologies, policies and practices
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking extension programs, natural resource partnering, or environmental education activities related to habitat restoration and management
  • A sound understanding of the South East Queensland Ecological Restoration Framework
  • Knowledge of Gold Coast flora and fauna and legislation relevant to the conservation of biodiversity
  • Tertiary qualifications in natural resource management, environmental science or similar nature conservation related discipline, and applicable experience in a relevant field
