An exciting opportunity is available for a Project Officer on an ongoing basis in Youth Justice Community Services.

About us

The Department of Justice and Regulation is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system. The Youth Justice Division supports the youth justice service to provide community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children’s Court, Children’s Koori Court and adult criminal courts and who have been placed on youth justice supervised orders.

Community Services forms part of the Youth Justice team within the Youth Justice Division. The team is responsible for supporting the delivery of effective supervision of young people in community youth justice, in the context of the broader youth justice service. The strategic priorities of the Community Services team are:

  • Lead and contribute to youth justice reforms to meet needs and reduce reoffending.
  • Support the delivery of evidence-based, effective and well-administered community youth justice programs.
  • Provide practice support to regions to ensure consistent and well-coordinated supervision.
  • Support the youth parole board secretariat and community youth justice to ensure the effective functioning of youth parole.
  • Coordinate community youth justice information and advice for senior stakeholders.

    About the role

    The Program Officer will be responsible for activities relating to the coordination of YJ information and advice in relation to a range of processes including the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme and the Child Information Sharing Scheme.

    The Program Officer will also support the development and implementation of policy and program initiatives for the state-wide provision of the youth justice service. With support, the Officer will be required to develop, implement and review overarching policy, operational procedures and service delivery tools. The Officer works collaboratively with service delivery partners across the Youth Justice service to ensure that the programs overseen by the Community Services team are well-designed and well-supported.

    To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in collating and summarising information from a wide variety of sources
  • Experience providing well-written, clear, succinct and authoritative advice for decision makers, such as: Ministerial briefings and correspondence, reports, practice guidance and operational policy
  • An understanding of the operations of the youth justice system would be highly regarded

A tertiary qualification in a relevant area such as public policy, social sciences, criminology, law or community services is desirable.is also desirable.
