The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Case Manager/Investigators manage incoming notifications that AHPRA receive about health practitioners from patients or their families, other health practitioners, employers, including those that are received via the health complaint entities in each state and territory.  This includes assessing and investigating complaints or concerns and contributing to the management of those that result in health and performance assessment.

In this role you will:

  • Manage notifications concerning health practitioners' conduct, performance or health under the National Law and in accordance with the regulatory principles adopted by AHPRA and the national boards
  • Conduct assessments and investigations related to notifications
  • Obtain and analyse relevant information related to notifications, including interviewing relevant parties and drafting witness statements
  • If required, conduct inspections including interviewing third parties and witnesses
  • Organise health and performance assessments, as required
  • Document evidence and preparing high quality reports and recommendations in accordance with the National Law, incorporating findings for consideration by the relevant board or committee
  • Negotiate with relevant stakeholders to obtain information required to effectively and appropriately deal with notifications about health practitioners
  • Seek approval on reports and recommendations prior to submitting to an agenda for consideration by the relevant board
  • If required, liaising with and assisting legal counsel in the preparation and conduct of matters to be dealt with by panels, tribunals and committees

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, preferably a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations)
  • Knowledge and experience in the conduct of professional standards investigations in a sensitive and complex environment
  • Strong written communication skills including experience in writing reports and recommendations, preparing correspondence and agenda items
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to deal with difficult and challenging stakeholders
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills
