The Role

The Policy & Advocacy unit develops medical and health policies, leads the College’s advocacy initiatives, and provides advice on policy so that the College is actively engaged in health policy debate and positioned to influence medical and health policy in Australia and New Zealand, as it affects the Fellows and trainees, patients and communities that they serve.

This role works as part of the Policy & Advocacy team in the development, dissemination and implementation of health policies, positions and projects that reflect the priorities of the College and its members. As the Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer, you will support Fellows and trainees to harness their expertise and experience to develop compelling, relevant and timely health policies and contribute to the College’s advocacy work.  

Your duties will include:

  • Developing policy, advocacy and communications strategies to support College policy priorities.
  • Developing policies, position statements, advocacy materials on matters as required, based on input and advice from College Fellows and trainees.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to engage the College membership with the policy and advocacy work of the College.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovative and engaging advocacy initiatives, to include appropriate reporting measures on effectiveness.
  • Participating in the provision of rapid response to health policy issues as they arise.

 

The Successful Candidate

In addition to relevant tertiary qualifications in political science, communications health policy or other related discipline, you will also possess:

  • Experience in the development of health policies, position statements and briefing papers.
  • Highly developed analytical skills, political judgement and strategic thinking.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing persuasive strategies for change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to adapt writing style to a specific audience and purpose.
