Are you an experienced law enforcement officer and seeking an exciting new challenge? Canterbury Bankstown Council is the Host Council for the Sydney Regional Illegal Dumping Squad who provide investigative services to the other Council’s to ensure our environment is protected and that illegal dumping is minimised across the Sydney region.

The primary purpose of this role is to investigate illegal dumping of waste and to deliver prosecutable cases under the relevant legislation, i.e. the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and the Environmental Protection Act.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Issuing fines, clean-up and other statutory notices that are prosecutable
Conducting site audits
Regularly patrolling the assigned sectors and identifying problem areas
Representing member councils in both the Local Court and Land & Environment Court (where legal action has been taken against offenders)
Providing timely advice to developers, builders and landholders, and implementing proactive measures to ensure compliance in relation to illegal waste dumping within a defined area
Assist with the delivery of RID Squad Work plans.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Tertiary education in the field of environment or law enforcement
Demonstrated experience in regulatory or compliance activities
Demonstrated experience in applying relevant legislative and statutory requirements and /or industry codes, practices and standards
Experience in gathering evidence, preparing briefs of evidence, and prosecutions in the Local and/or Land Environment Courts
Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
