About this role
Are you passionate about public health? The Centre for Population Health plays a lead role tackling complex health issues, including overweight and obesity. The NSW Government is committed to addressing this health issue and aims to reduce rates of childhood overweight and obesity by five per cent by 2025. We are seeking an Assistant Policy Officer to join the small, highly-motivated team working on the state-wide program seeking to meet this ambitious goal.

Where you'll be working
The Centre for Population Health aims to promote health and to prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. The CPH portfolio encompasses: alcohol and other drugs; hepatitis B and C; sexually transmissible infections including HIV; tobacco; and obesity. The strategies used to address these issues include state-wide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development, resource allocation, performance monitoring, research and evaluation.
 
Programs and services funded by the CPH are delivered in government, non-government, community and clinical settings. The CPH approach is characterised by a focus on evidence-informed programmatic and system-level interventions that improve health, reduce health inequity, create healthy environments, promote community action, enable personal health-seeking and recognise the social determinants of good health.

What you'll be doing
The Assistant Policy Officer will assist to develop, implement and evaluate NSW Health policies. To be eligible, demonstrate your ability to provide advice to stakeholders, and contribute to policies, briefs, meetings papers, presentations and correspondence. This role will also undertake a range of clerical support functions and provide executive support for the CPH. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work across range of projects and manage competing work priorities. Familiarity with the health sector is highly desirable.
