We are looking for an Education & Visitor Services Manager to work on a full time basis, and this employment opportunity is available to all members of the community. 

 

Sales & Marketing Branch

The Sales, Marketing & Distribution branch is responsible for designing, developing, promoting, selling and distributing the Mint’s official collector coin (numismatic) programs, and protecting and developing the Royal Australian Mint brand. It is a commercially focused profit driven business within the Mint. The Branch also delivers an education and visitor services program which incorporates guided tours for both schools and the general public, public programs and management and maintenance of the exhibition and factory viewing areas.

 

Community Engagement and Experience Section

This section is responsible for development and delivery of community and tourism engagement activities and management of the tourist attraction. It develops and delivers educational programs for visiting groups and is responsible for the operational management and ongoing development of the tourist attraction and the interpretive exhibits within it.

 

The team will develop tourism, education and community engagement experiences for approximately 330,000 visitors a year. A requirement is to develop and plan programs that will educate, inform and interest school children, coin collectors and the general public regarding Australia’s coinage history and the process of coin manufacture.

 

Leadership and communication skills are critical, as is the ability to manage and influence a passionate team. Project management experience, creative flair, and outstanding customer focus, are also important skills required to lead this team. The role would ideally suit someone who is passionate about education, innovation and the provision of world-class visitor service.

 

Individual role within the Team

Under broad direction, provide leadership, support and advice to the General Manager of Sales & Marketing on a range of issues dealt with by the Education and Visitor Services team, including:

  • Lead and develop initiatives for the purposes of promoting Australia’s coin history and the Royal Australian Mint as a must-see destination and experience;
  • Under broad direction manage the administration of a small unit and prepare reports on project budgets, schedules, and resources for the professional management of the tourist facilities;
  • Manage the operational and strategic activities of the Education and Visitor Services section with a  particular focus on the provision of impactful educational experiences;
  • Using market research, apply continuous improvement principles to improve the product and people relating to education and visitor services;
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and quality standards relating to the tourist facilities, the visitor and education program and any new CAPEX initiatives;
  • Oversight of the development of exhibits and their layouts;
  • Consult with industry stakeholders to discuss projects and possible collaborations; and
  • Management oversight of the Australian National Coin Collection.

 

The successful applicant will need to have the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and preparation of programs preferably within a tourism or education environment, including experience in exhibition development, facility management and public engagement strategies.
  • Strong and relevant industry background
  • Possession of business acumen to align with the broader commercial focus of the Mint
  • A Bachelor of Business (Tourism Management) or Education, or Museum Studies Diploma or Degree or other relevant qualifications is desirable
  • Demonstrated advanced decision-making capability, including assessment of risk and consideration of unintended consequences
  • Demonstrated respect, fairness, honest and consideration of others including inviting and giving constructive feedback as taking responsibility for resolving conflicts in a constructive manner
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results and identify and solve complex problems through the strategic planning by possessing highly developed analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives
  • Ability to independently prepare documentation drafts of more complex interpretive material
