Warrnambool City Council is located 3 hours’ drive from Melbourne on the spectacular west coast of Victoria. It is Victoria’s largest coastal city outside of Port Phillip Bay and a regional centre servicing a population of about 120,000. Council has a strong service culture that is underpinned by a diverse and talented group of staff. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced finance professional to join Council as the Co-ordinator Financial Services.
Reporting to the Manager and leading a small team, you will be responsible for the achievement of Council’s corporate objectives by providing diligent financial analysis, innovation and good governance. Specific responsibilities include:-
- Leadership and mentoring of staff
- Co-ordinating the operational and strategic functions of the financial services team
- Identifying improvements to financial performance
- Developing and supporting successful business partnerships to assist Councils Business Units to improve their financial position
- Preparation of regulatory, statutory and financial reporting
- Providing oversight of treasury functions
- Working closely with staff to identify opportunities for productivity gains and workplace continuous improvement
The successful candidate has highly developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills and previous experience in preparing budgets, financial reports and statements. The ability to identify business and system improvements is essential, as is a commitment to working as an internal business partner across the organization assisting service managers to improve their financial position. Tertiary qualifications in finance are essential, CPA/CA status and experience with Technology One desirable. Previous experience leading and mentoring staff will be well regarded, but professional development is offered for the successful candidate.
