NSW Ambulance is one of the largest and most modern ambulance services in the world and is recognised as a global leader in its field. It is a division of NSW Health and provides emergency and non-emergency clinical care, retrieval and specialist patient transport services to a population of over 7 million, delivered by its 4,500 staff through 250 locations across metropolitan and regional NSW. Through its fleet of 1,500 road based vehicles, helicopter operations, fixed wing aircraft, off-road vehicles, snowmobiles and other bespoke rescue options, NSW Ambulance provides comprehensive rapid response services across a diverse range of scenarios and geographical locations.

It is a highly complex, geographically distributed organisation with significant multi-stakeholder involvement across its operations, both centrally and locally. NSW Ambulance is now seeking to appoint an outstanding Director Counter Terrorism and Emergency Management to ensure that NSW Ambulance has a coordinated and effective major incident and emergency management response capability at all times.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Clinical Operations, you will:

  • Provide guidance and advice to NSW Ambulance’s senior managers relating to all aspects of counter terrorism and disaster planning, and preparedness of response to planned and unplanned events;
  • Manage the development and oversee the implementation of strategies and operating policies and procedures for major events and emergency response across NSW Ambulance;
  • Ensure NSW Ambulance has a coordinated response capability at all times, and that training and staff development frameworks are embedded across the organisation;
  • Manage the wider Counter Terrorism and Emergency Management team, ensuring all aspects of training, professional development, physical resources and finances are aligned to the overall performance strategy and objectives;
  • Work at a local, state and national level with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders to ensure that the NSW Ambulance emergency response strategy is aligned with other agencies and partners;
  • Develop strategies and programs to improve the efficiency of your organisation, through astute financial and operational management, and the adoption of global best practice methodologies;
  • Foster a responsive, future focused and contemporary organisational culture which supports staff to deliver true excellence in care.

To succeed in this role, you’ll possess high level knowledge and an extensive track record in the leadership and coordination of emergency management planning and response programs. This may have been within a similar or related emergency response organisation; equally we encourage applications from individuals who have led response management programs from other sectors such as transport, aviation or defence for example. You will possess high level strategic, planning and organisational skills in a large and complex organisation and a demonstrable capacity to crystalise complex issues, analyse options and develop solutions.
