Who are we?
The Supervising Scientist Branch (SSB) is part of the Department of the Environment and Energy’s Heritage, Reef and Marine Division.
Our core functions are to:
· Ensure the protection of the Alligator Rivers Region from the effects of uranium mining and encourage best practice in wetland conservation and management.
· Protect the environment through environmental research and monitoring, environmental supervision, audit and inspection.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced candidate with qualifications and/or relevant demonstrated experience to manage the Branch’s policy and governance activities.
The successful candidate will manage all policy and governance arrangements in the Branch and will be required to:
· Prepare high quality briefing material including Ministerial submissions and Senate estimates briefs, and undertake other high level policy and coordination tasks
· Provide efficient and effective secretariat services to the branch’s statutory committees, including meeting coordination and committee governance arrangements
· Provide accurate, high quality and timely policy and parliamentary information, analysis and advice to the branch, Departmental Executive and the Minister
Who are you?
To be successful in this role you will need:
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with a high level of attention to detail, including excellent written ability for the production of clear and concise reports, and provision of information and advice to external stakeholders.
· High level organizational, research and analysis skills and the ability to provide high quality advice to other staff members, senior executives and Ministers.
· A detailed understanding of whole of government, departmental, ministerial and parliamentary processes and governance requirements.
· An ability to work under limited direction and manage multiple competing priorities.
· An ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and staff members, and to work effectively in a team.
