We are currently seeking applications from experienced Health and Allied Health Professionals to provide accurate assessment of a customer’s capacity to work and where appropriate refer customer’s to programmes of assistance.  

You will investigate, analyse and review complex and sensitive information to make appropriate determinations, ensuring compliance with policy and guidelines.  This information will help inform the determination of eligibility for payments and you are responsible for the assessment of customers with medical, psychological and social barriers to employment, and assist customers to engage and participate in the labour market.

You will collaborate and liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to gather information, resolve customer issues and to make referrals. 

This role you will need to exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. Decision making is substantially dependent on judgement, skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Manage and organise your own work in the context of competing priorities, including contributing to business planning, changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies
  • Undertake the assessment of a customer’s current and future capacity to work 
  • Identify and tailor services for customers facing barriers to employment and help them to access, navigate or interpret services across a range of payments, programmes and services
  • Investigate, analyse and assess complex and sensitive information, to make recommendations, ensuring it complies with policy and relevant service provision guidelines
  • Arrange and/or deliver specialist assessments for customers in accordance with the department’s guidelines
  • Collaborate with other departmental staff to improve quality, consistency and accuracy of professional advice provided
  • Support and mentor staff, including coaching and training to build service delivery capability
  • Prepare a range of draft written documents, including lodging assessments in accordance with a prescribed format and within required timeframes
  • Review and assess escalated customer issues and queries and where appropriate, refer to senior staff
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to request information and/or make appropriate referrals
  • Provide advice and interpretation on technical information to other staff and areas of the department on more complex eligibility matters
  • Develop and implement improvements and best practice in processes and procedures
  • Maintain customer and programme documentation in accordance with procedures and guidelines

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA)

  • Mental health accredited social workers must be registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/clearance must be obtained prior to commencing in this position

  • Registered Nurses, Accredited Exercise Physiologists, Speech Pathologists and Rehabilitation Counsellors registered with ASORC are encouraged to apply.
