Electorate Officer – Research
Senator James Paterson, Liberal Senator for Victoria
Applications are invited for the above position based in Melbourne.
The duties of this position include: supporting the senator in his role as Chair of the Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee and as a member on other committees, assisting in the drafting of committee reports, liaising with government departments and other organisations, preparing and coordinating correspondence, and organising briefings and meetings.
Successful applicants will be required to travel to Canberra during sitting weeks, and to work reasonable levels of overtime when required.
Applicants should possess the following skills and experience:
- A strong understanding of Australia’s system of government and parliamentary processes.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Well-developed office IT skills
- Good organisational ability
- Ability to work as part of a small team
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019.
A commencing salary between $49,957 and $67,139 will be paid and an optional allowance of up to $15,805 is payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and official undertaken travel outside of business hours. In addition, 4 weeks of annual leave is available, as well as the Christmas-New Year period. Superannuation of an additional 15.4% will be paid.
A probationary period of 3 months will apply.
