Gillian Beaumont Legal has been engaged by a Commonwealth Government Department to source a lawyer with legislative drafting experience at the EL1 level. This Canberra-based position is offered on the basis a contract for 6 to12 months.
The successful candidate will support the department's legislation program by preparing legislation, providing drafting services and legal advice, and drafting instruments in accordance with the Secretary's powers under a suite of legislation and instruments.
The successful candidate will possess extensive legislative drafting experience and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the specific challenges involved in drafting legislation and legislative instruments in a complex and changing national security environment.
Candidates with experience in the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, or a State or Territory equivalent, are strongly encouraged to express their interest, as are candidates with drafting experience in a statutory authority. Legal qualifications are desirable but not essential.
