An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced emergency services professional to join the Town of Port Hedland’s dynamic Ranger Services Department. You will play a key role in developing a safe and resilient community which is capable of both operating within the structures of legislated requirements and is capable or responding to and recovering from emergencies. The officer will be tasked with ensuring that the Towns obligations relating to Emergency Management are met, facilitate/coordinate the Local Emergency Management Committee and continue to develop, review, test and improve the Town of Port Hedland’s Emergency Managements arrangements and plans. The officer will play a critical role during emergencies and will coordinate initiatives to ensure that both the Town of Port Hedland and the Community are capable in the areas of Emergency Preparation, Preparedness and Recovery.

Forming part of the Ranger team will see the suitable applicant also taking on the challenging but rewarding role of Town of Port Hedland Ranger providing vital services including animal control, law enforcement, bush fire management and community education initiatives.

About you

The preferred candidate will be an effective communicator who can liaise with all levels of the business as well as external organisations. You are a self-motivated with a great public relations, administration skills and is a diligent individual who prides themselves on their strong attention to detail. The preferred candidate will have previous experience in the field of emergency management, experience in Ranger field is desirable but not essential. The Ranger training program will be available for the right candidate.

You must have a good foundation in bush fire management, 4wd off road vehicle use and good understanding of the application of legislation, policies and local laws is also desirable.

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:

  • Diploma in Emergency Management
  • Current ‘C’ Class manual driver’s licence
  • National Police Clearance
  • 4WD training course
