The Opportunity

This role sits in the Market Provider and Sector Development Division. As the Assistant Director Growth and Innovation, you will assist the Director to develop and implement the strategic program of work aimed at ensuring that contemporary practice and innovation thrive.

This work will assist in ensuring that participants have access to the best existing models of support and that new and better solutions are increasingly available for them to choose.

This is a 12 month contract role based in Geelong or Melbourne. This role is EL1 equivalent paying up to $67.00 per hours plus super.

As this role is within the Federal Government, applications are required to hold Australian Citizenship in order to be considered. We are unable to consider Permanent Residents.

The Role:

The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Director and colleagues across the organisation and will be required to quickly gain a sound understanding of the aims and work activities across the division whilst building a good understanding of market structures and segments in the environment.

As the Assistant Director of Growth and Innovation you will;

  • Work collaboratively with the Director and staff to develop and implement the team’s strategic program of work, ensuring linkages between work streams are cultivated and maintained.
  • Research and collate relevant qualitative and quantitative information from a variety of sources. Synthesise information to identify strategic and tactical opportunities. Build an evidence base to inform and improve the effectiveness of the program of work.
  • Manage and report on the program of work utilising a strong project management methodology.
  • Represent the organisation in discussions with other government agencies, senior industry representatives or provider stakeholders in relation to the vision for the marketplace and the role of growth and innovation across a range of submarkets
  • Lead and develop communication and engagement plans with a focus on tailored information and dissemination solutions based on industry or provider analysis and tested with internal and external subject matter experts
  • Lead and prepare a variety of communications materials and resources relevant to the promotion and enablement of innovation in services delivered
  • Prepare written correspondence and advice at an executive level including briefs and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Be highly flexible and employ an adaptable approach to work within a context of a newly forming and changing body of work.
  • Manage competing priorities while maintaining high work standards and accuracy.
  • Manage staff within the team as required

About you:

To be considered for this role candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience within a leadership role, in particular within Australian Government
  • Excellent engagement skills and the ability to negotiate and problem solve within complex environments
  • Excellent research, analytical and investigative skill sand the capacity for strategic thinking
  • The capacity to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Well developed communication skills and the ability to develo0p reports or communication materials for a diverse audience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to develop staff, coach others and manage performance
  • Quickly adapts to a changing environment
  • Ability to produce executive level correspondence
  • Demonstrated experience of market analysis, segmentation and product development
  • Previous experience in providing strategic advice to government and public sector projects would be highly regarded.
