The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Nurse Educator (Children's Critical Care Unit) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 9000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region.

You will take responsibility for

  • Functioning in accordance with legislation and common law affecting nursing practice and with the Codes and Guidelines of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Promoting relevant professional standards e.g. NMBA's Professional Practice Guidelines and Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
  • Ensuring a safe environment by managing risk within the context of practice development
  • Contributing to the development of clinical practice
  • Contributing to positive client outcomes by applying advanced educational skills and clinical knowledge within the context of practice development
  • Supporting strategic direction

Requirements for the role

  • A Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position
  • A Masters qualification within a relevant area is highly desirable. Where the successful applicant does not currently hold a relevant post-graduate qualification, commitment to completion of post-graduate study within an agreed timeframe is expected and will form part of the performance review process
  • Experience in senior nursing positions within a relevant specialty is highly desirable.
  • It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  Certified copies of relevant qualification and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties

Salary information

  • Permanent full time
  • Base salary ranging from $107 804 - $117 037 per annum
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading

About Children's Critical Care Unit

The Children's Critical Care Unit is a 4-bedded (2 ventilator equivalent) unit and provides family-centred care to the critically ill children of the Gold Coast region and beyond in partnership with the tertiary paediatric facility in Brisbane.  The unit currently functions as a level 4/5 critical care facility within the scope defined by the Clinical Services Capability Framework.

The nursing cohort is comprised of individuals from a wide spectrum of backgrounds with a vast range of clinical expertise and attributes ranging from experienced paediatric ward nurses to adult ICU nurses.  The unit currently facilitates a  range of development pathways for its team to suit the needs of each individual.
